Mum of six, Kate Ball initially started Mini First Aid in 2014 from her kitchen table in Leeds, offering high quality baby & child first aid classes to parents and carers. Demand grew and Kate saw the potential for growth, so she started franchising the business in 2015. In 2021, BBC Dragon’s Den star Sara Davies, also saw the huge potential in Mini First Aid and she came on board as an investor and adviser. Mini First Aid is now a multi-award-winning organisation and has almost 70 franchises nationwide.

Meet The Trainers

Gemma da Silva


Gemma’s background in primary school teaching, long haul cabin crew, as well as an ambulance service community first responder, equipped her with many experiences of dealing with varied first aid situations over the years. As a new Mum, Gemma initially joined Mini First Aid in 2016, keen to share her first aid knowledge with the other families of her community, to ensure they would also know how to handle any urgent situations with their little ones. Gemma has also had a role within Mini First Aid head office since 2017, supporting our nationwide team of trainers in their initial training as well as their continued professional development.

Ceri Hewitt

Ceri is a qualified teacher and has experience of teaching in primary and secondary settings. Now working for the NHS, she supports schools and other organisations with sharing and promoting safety messages to families about how to avoid injuries and deliver good first aid in the event they happen. As a Mum herself, she is delighted to be working with Mini First Aid as she is passionate about spreading the lifesaving skills of first aid widely. Ceri is very happy to be joining us in equipping parents and carers with the knowledge and confidence to help their little ones in an emergency.

Jackie Latimer

Jackie is a mum of two boys and a qualified teacher. For over 25 years Jackie has trained healthcare professionals, the police, social care and education professionals in a variety of subjects including trauma care, immediate life support and basic first aid. She is confident in her subject knowledge and has an excellent reputation as an inspirational and engaging trainer. Jackie is passionate about both first aid and safeguarding and feels first aid is an essential life skill that everyone should be taught, including young children and teenagers. Jackie is keen to pass her knowledge on to others to help save lives.
